EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE

It’s been another impressive year for biotechnology in Victoria, further cementing our State at the leading edge of research and capability in this fast-moving sector.

The recent establishment of the Snow Centre for Immune Health at WEHI is a significant step forward. With $100 million in funding over 10 years and a 15-year research program with global collaboration, it’s one of the largest philanthropic investments in our nation’s history and enables research to continue long-term to fight immune disease and highly relevant to the fight against cancer.

And just last week, there was more significant news with the announcement a major new manufacturing and research operations to be built by BioNTech under an agreement with the Victorian Government and La Trobe University.

Partnering to amplify consumer voices

Consumers, researchers and health professionals united on Friday 8 December to celebrate and explore a new era of integrating lived experience expertise into cancer care and control.

This Consumer Engagement and Leadership forum provided the launching place of a landmark $1.6 million research partnership aimed at enhancing the impact and contribution of lived experience to cancer care, research and education in Victoria.

International Indigenous meeting to address persistent cancer disparities

In March 2024, Indigenous leaders from around the world will come together in Naarm (Melbourne) for the third World Indigenous Cancer Conference (WICC).

Sponsored by the Victorian Government and hosted by the VCCC Alliance in partnership with the World Health Organisation’s International Agency for Research on Cancer, WICC 2024 will identify international research priorities and foster collaboration between delegates that will contribute to research for years to come.
