Hey, thanks for being here. Sorry to not get the usual Monday Beyond the Box Score newsletter to you, I've been under the weather. Dan and I decided to push the Tuesday recording to Wednesday for the same reason. I'm going to rest up tonight. |
I hope you are feeling well and are ready for a late-season push! If not, no worries, we can still enjoy the remaining games! That's mostly what I've been doing over the past two days, digging into Week 13 film on the Colts, Patriots, Bucs, Panthers, Chargers, Falcons, Texans, Jaguars, and Seahawks. Some of it has been sad (Kirk Cousins), some have been frustrating (Seattle's offense), and some have been exciting and hopeful, like the continued improvement shown by Bryce Young! We got an awesome matchup between two juggernauts in the Eagles win over the Ravens, Dan and I will recap that in Wednesday's show. It was another great week with plenty to enjoy around the league! |
Here are some links if you wanna watch anything that I cut up and put on Twitter: |
Texans -- Nico Collins getting more slot work, C.J. Stroud not quite looking like himself Texans -- Tank Dell missing out on some explosive play opportunities |
Jaguars -- Brian Thomas Jr. is a bad man |
Bucs -- Bucky Irving is averaging the third-most scrimmage yards over the past month |
Panthers -- Bryce Young made the most out of a pretty rough game from his supporting cast Panthers -- Jonathon Brooks looks great! |
Patriots -- Captain Cool Drake Maye |
Colts -- Beyond the Box Score with Anthony Richardson |
Falcons -- Kirk Cousins missed Darnell Mooney on a walk-in TD (there's a lot of scary bad film from Kirk in that thread) Falcons -- Drake London had a massive 188 air yards in Week 13 but did not win on any of his downfield looks. He consistently won on short in and out horizontally-breaking routes, but he and Kirk Cousins left a lot on the field on downfield opportunities |
Seahawks -- Jaxon Smith-Njigba looks the best that I've seen him. He's been an absolute savage over the past month Seahawks -- DK Metcalf easily could have scored on this play and had several end zone targets that amounted to nothing |
And here's Monday's Beyond the Box Score episode recorded with Adam and Dan, if you missed that. |
|
Dan and I will have Beyond the Box Score part two live on YouTube on Wednesday. |
Week 14 Waiver Wire |
|
|
Waiver Wire |
Quarterback |
Will Levis -- He's been avoiding turnovers, there's a bit of scrambling upside, and Nick Westbrook-Ihkine has a deal with the devil that gets him at least one TD every week. You could probably do worse than Levis in a matchup against the Jaguars on a week with tons of QBs on bye. |
Aidan O'Connell -- The Raiders have a respectable Vegas-implied team total (19.75 points) in a matchup against the Buccaneers. We cannot say the same thing for Bryce Young's Panthers (16.5) against the Eagles. |
For superflex leagues, you could consider adding Michael Penix Jr. with a tough Week 14 matchup on the horizon for Kirk Cousins vs. Minnesota and Brian Flores. Cousins really struggled in Week 13, and it's possible that we could see the rookie if things get really ugly this week. |
Running Back |
Isaac Guerendo -- He's shown some flashes and may be leaned upon heavily by the banged-up Niners. He's the clear-cut number one priority waiver wire add. I'm emptying the chamber for him anywhere that I still have FAAB remaining. |
Israel Abanikanda is also an interesting name to consider (definitely check to see if he is available on Dynasty waiver wires) |
If you really need a spot start for Week 14, Sincere McCormick is who I would recommend. He ran really well in Week 13 and ended up surprisingly seeing double-digit touches as a result. He could be a viable flex for deep leagues in a matchup against the Bucs. |
If looking more for a lottery ticket bench stash, there are certainly players with more upside than McCormick: |
Tyjae Spears -- The remaining matchups are awesome. If Tony Pollard misses any time, Spears could be a league-winner. |
Kimani Vidal -- He got the first touch on the second drive of the game in Week 13. The Chargers mixed him in several spots throughout the game. He gave up a sack on a pass pro rep and then was still out there for third down on the very next play (not a hurry-up situation). It feels like the Chargers are intrigued by Vidal and might not want Gus Edwards to see much of a role expansion. Also, Hassan Haskins fumbled in this game. |
Other stashes, in order of how I'd prioritize adding/holding them: |
Zach Charbonnet Ray Davis Blake Corum Khalil Herbert Trey Benson Cam Akers Jaylen Wright Kendre Miller |
Wide Receiver |
Nick Westbrook-Ikhine -- He is my Nico Collins replacement in a league where I'm fighting for a playoff spot, what a ridiculous game that we play! |
He's seen his receiving volume turned up in response to the banger after banger that he keeps playing, so maybe he can turn in a decent Fantasy day even if the TD regression hits. Can you trust a receiver catching passes from Will Levis? I don't know, but at least the Titans are playing the Jags this week! |
Marquez Valdes-Scantling -- NWI or MVS, how would you like your chaos cooked this week? The matchup seems better for Westbrook-Ikhine, the Giants have not allowed much downfield passing to the wide receiver position this year. Maybe Dexter Lawrence's absence will impact that, as pockets might not collapse quite so quickly going forward. |
Elijah Moore -- Maybe the best waiver wire wideout, Moore continues to benefit from Jameis Winston playing with the volume turned all the way up every single game. |
|
Next up is a matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers defense. Cedric Tillman may be back for Cleveland. I'm not sure what we can expect of Moore, but I'm also not sure what we can expect from any of the Week 14 waiver wire wide receivers. The Steelers have been beatable in the slot for as long as I can remember. If this game isn't played in a blizzard, Moore could put up bigger numbers than the 3-21 receiving line he turned in vs. Pittsburgh two weeks ago. |
Parker Washington -- A surprising name on the above list, we saw tons of opportunity for the Year 2 Jacksonville receiver in the first game following a Week 12 bye. He's worth an add in dynasty leagues for sure, and Washington may be a name to know for deeper season-long leagues. |
Brandin Cooks -- He gets the Bengals, then the Panthers, and then the Bucs. Is there any gas left in the tank? |
Tight End |
Juwan Johnson -- The Saints continue to lose offensive weapons, leaving Johnson as one of the last men standing. He brings sneaky streamer upside with several winnable matchups remaining. |
Ja'Tavion Sanders -- This is a stash, I don't expect much of anything from Carolina vs. Philadelphia in Week 14. After that, Carolina faces Dallas, Arizona, and then Tampa Bay. Those are each matchups where we could see Sanders finish an impressive rookie season strong. |
