Christmas is just around the corner and with that brings the highly anticipated, and last ever episode of Gavin & Stacey, airing on Christmas Day. So, while we’re all tucking into our turkey sandwiches finding out if Smithy said ‘yes’ to Nessa’s proposal, or whatever did happen on that fishing trip, why not put Barry Island, or even Billericay, on your holiday hitlist and explore these locations for yourself?
Barry Island – beach days and more
We’re so familiar with Barry Island being the main setting for our favourite programme, and this charming, traditional seaside town is a fabulous place to base your holiday too. With the huge sandy beach of Whitmore Bay, amusements parks, fun fairs and the best fish and chips for miles, this little peninsula is a true gem.
Just outside London, nestled in the county of Essex, lies the little town of Billericay, home to Pam and Mick. Within Essex, there is plenty to keep you busy – from lively seaside towns like Southend-on-Sea to historic Colchester – where you can visit one of the oldest castles in Britain and discover the remains of the UK’s only Roman circus. It’s all well connected by train and bus, making it easy to explore the whole county.
