Grim and gray. Expect cloudy skies overnight and lows from around 20 up north to near 30 in southwest Minnesota. Tomorrow will be cloudy again with highs in the 30s and lows in the 20s and 30s.
Gov. Tim Walz and Minnesota House Republicans proposed relief measures Tuesday for businesses and workers struggling due to COVID-19 restrictions. There was bipartisan hope that a plan could be quickly agreed upon.
The state numbers are big. Walz said his latest restrictions have hit about 14,000 businesses. House DFL majority leader Ryan Winkler offered a ballpark aid figure of $25,000 each.
Minnesota’s COVID-19 outbreak continued to ease slightly Tuesday, with new cases back below 7,000 for a second straight day. State officials reported 6,400 new cases and 38 additional deaths. That’s generally in line with recent days, and down from record highs reported last week.
Of note in the latest data: The state reported more than 300 daily hospital admissions for only the second time during the pandemic, underscoring alarm expressed by health care providers at the number of people requiring in-patient care.
Minnesota’s 2020 election results have been certified, despite a late attempt by some Republicans to head it off.
