To help with this, here are some prompt questions, if required - click here. Dental Clinic Carpark Just a couple of reminders for those who use the dental clinic carpark: Please use the crossing to cross the carpark - it is there for everyone's safety. If you are driving and being waved on please do not stop - the carpark wardens will tell you if you need to stop. This carpark is quite hectic at 3pm but with everyone's co-operation it is running reasonably smoothly. Totara Terrace Wastewater Main Upgrade Just a heads up to parents who use the Totora Terrace entrance to the school - Veolia and the QLFC will be upgrading the wastewater main on Totara Terrace with work commencing next week and taking approximately 6-7 weeks. There will be speed reductions in place for the duration and motorists are asked to adhere to the traffic management in place. |

Corona Virus Update The Prime Minister has announced the first case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in New Zealand. The Ministry of Health has noted that although we have our first case of COVID-19, the chances of community outbreak remain low. Please continue to reinforce messages about hygiene practices. Practising good hand and sneeze/cough hygiene is the best defence. We are encouraging this at school: washing hands often with soap and water before and after eating as well as after attending the toilet, cover coughs and sneezes with clean tissues or elbows, put used tissues in the bin. We encourage students to stay home if unwell. As announced this week by the Ministry of Health, there are now two categories for travellers arriving in New Zealand: Category 1 – People who have travelled from or transited through countries in category 1 in the last 14 days are required to self-isolate for 14 days and contact Healthline after they have left the countries. Mainland China and Iran are the two countries included in this category (with Iran added to this category on Friday 28 February). Category 2 – People who have travelled from or via countries listed in category 2 who develop symptoms of fever, cough or shortness of breath should seek medical advice by first phoning Healthline’s dedicated COVID-19 number 0800 358 5453 or contacting their GP including phoning ahead of their visit. As at Friday 28th February countries in this category are Hong Kong, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Singapore and Thailand. |

Ice Skating - Yay What Fun! We are still looking for helpers to put up the ice skating rink next Monday 9th March at 5pm here at school in the hall. Please let the school office know if you can help. The rink is here from Tuesday and all classes are timetabled in for a lesson and skate. After school sessions are also being held, with a disco on Friday evening and the rink is open both Saturday and Sunday as well. What Children Need to Wear for Ice Skating Children will be provided with skates, helmets and gloves - children under 16 are required to wear helmets and gloves at all times. Children can bring their own helmets to wear if they would prefer. It is also recommended that children wear long socks and long pants. Please keep in mind that the ice rink is a state of the art artificial rink which looks like ice, skates like ice, BUT ISN'T COLD! Please click here for the 'Ice Skating Roster for the Classes'. School Wide Assessments Our Literacy Lift team have completed their screening assessments and our small group programmes started this week. Kit, Marj, Marg and Emma are working with our children identified by these assessments. Teacher Aides will start working on STEPS with small groups as well. These programmes are in addition to Literacy programmes in the classroom. Kerry and I have been implementing normed testing in reading comprehension. listening and maths over the last week or so and we will also undertake a writing assessment, year 3 and up. Teachers carry out reading, writing and maths assessments to inform students next learning steps. We also collate the results of these tests and share them with the Board. We have had our first training session that will see us implementing the ALIM (Accelerated Learning in Maths) programmes. Kylie, Robyn, Coral and Jennie will focus on small groups of children in their classes to receive these extra sessions in maths. They will then bring other teachers and classes on board as well. If your child is involved in any literacy or numeracy support programmes additional to the classroom programme, the teacher leading these will ensure you are well informed. Please do not hesitate to talk to your teachers at any time about your child's learning and progress. Farewell to Nic We are sad to be losing teacher Nic Bennett from Room 23, Pod 5, as she has resigned from her position as at the end of this term to relocate for family reasons. We wish Nic and her gorgeous girls the best for their move to Christchurch...we will miss you all. We are delighted to have Charlotte Lawrie coming in to work with Room 23 as from term 2. Charlotte has worked at Wānaka Primary for many years and we are so pleased to be welcoming her back full time to this position. |

WTR Role Profile - The Pee Wee Track Marshal This is a great little role located at the base paddock. Here the youngest riders get to rev their own little engines around the Pee Wee Track. No knowledge of pretty much anything is required, as these guys and girls ride under parental supervision. Here’s a run down of what you need to do: Ensure riders are pee wees only and have a parent supervising. Ensure riders are wearing appropriate clothing and helmet. Ensure riders are travelling in one direction only. Usually we have two marshals on at a time, so you’re not on your own. And if it happens you are, then the Volunteer Support Crew will bring you a cuppa and some baking halfway through your shift 😊. Only two spots left for this one, so sign up quick. For more info on this and all other roles check out the WTR website, you’ll find all the info you need there. Alternatively speak to parents Gillian White and Rachel Allibone or pop in and have a chat with Lucy in the office - we'll happily chat to you about the roles!
