Keeping Our Kids Safe Only 3 sleeps until the holidays - my body and mind tell me it feels like a long term, but looking back it has whizzed past and our bubbles seem like such a long time ago. We are so lucky to be living in New Zealand, but please keep reminding your children about maintaining their own personal space when in public and to keep up those hygiene practices of hand-washing and coughing into the arm. Seek doctor's advice if symptoms worry you and don't go out if you are unwell. Compared to other years we have not had the same level of colds and flu that normally strike near the end of term 2. We are aware of students and adults who have been to the doctors for a check up to find it is common old colds or flu. Next term we also ask that children are not sent to school if they are showing signs of a cough, cold, sniffle, sore throat or tummy. Most parents have been brilliant in keeping to this - thank you. When children return after the holidays we will continue the extra hygiene measures, as well as the use of hand sanitiser, surface cleaning of high touch areas, and our welcoming children at our gates and drop off and pick up areas. Events Back on Next Term Next term we will start up our school assemblies. Have a look on the calendar on our website - all pods will share an assembly with us over the next 2 terms. Our first big get together with parents will be the sharing of the dances we learn in the first week back next term. Keep Friday 24th free as that is our dance performance day - more details will be given in the first newsletter next term. The ski and EOTC programmes will continue as usual as will any sporting events, cultural events, our chess competition, student reporting to parents and teacher/parent conferences. Keep an eye on the newsletter each week so you don't miss out. We are looking forward to an exciting term 3 and seeing you all face to face on 4th August (students reporting to parents on their progress, achievements and tricky work) and 10th and 11th for teachers to report to parents. Some School Developments The seating in front of Pod 8 has been fitted, and the seating in front of Pod 7 is being installed at the moment. There has also been seating added to the outside cove of the library. The bus garage now has a flat entry and our ball wall floor has been extended. Painting the ball wall itself is an EOTC activity next term to add targets and lines etc for games. Thanks to Brad the Brickie for undertaking these jobs so quickly for us. Next term the irrigation on the hill behind Pod 8 will be a priority so we can get our orchard planted on the car park side of the hill and the natives planted on the sanctuary side of the hill (closer to MAC). We will then put in some platforms, seating, a giant chess board and some reading huts. We aim to have this all done by the end of the year. Happy Holidays Thank you to you all for being so strong and supportive of your children as they returned to school this term. It is so nice to see happy kids skip into school, and out again at 3 pm too of course, and to see mums and dads having hugs and kisses as they drop off. Have a happy holiday and I hope you get the chance to catch up with family, do a bit of skiing, dog walking or relaxing, as you all deserve it. Keep safe and remember those personal hygiene and distancing protocols to keep everyone safe. Well done everyone for getting to week 12 of the term. |
