A crappy solution: Sweden gets real about enforcing social distancing In most of the world, large gatherings of people have been outright canceled or banned due to fears of spreading COVID-19. It’s disappointing, for sure, but protecting the health of citizens is far more important than a little fun and games. But Sweden, unlike many other countries, has taken a much lighter approach to enforce methods that flatten the curve of infection. All that is set to change, however, in light of Valborg — a spring festival traditionally celebrated in Lund’s Stadspark recreation area. Instead of using police, city officials plan to dump a metric ton of manure across the park to make gathering there as unpleasant and smelly as possible. Officials say this kills two birds with one stone: Not only will guests be discouraged to attend festivities, but the manure will also help the grass grow healthier during dry summer months. We have to give them kudos for creativity, at least. Sweden has always done things differently. For example, did you know the country has its own phone number?
