WDPA News

Dear friends,

first of all, a happy New Year for all of you. Let's hope that we will finally get rid of the miserable Covid-pandemic so that we can go on with our work and our lives.

There was some activity in several countries, but in others, hardly anything happened. Hungary dared to organize the European Dog Show after being postponed, and many of us grabbed this opportunity to resharpen the knives. Budapest was OK and well organized. Our position in the main ring was not as good as in BRNO, but I think we all managed to bring it to a good end. We must thank our local Press Officer, Csaba Perterfi, who did an excellent job helping us, always with a big smile.

-----------------

I had the opportunity to lobby for the next European Dog Show in Paris and I can guarantee that we will be welcomed with respect and open arms. I will keep all of you informed of course. I expect soon also some news from our President Jose Doval, who was recently also elected as president of the Spanish Kennel Club, about the postponed 2020 World Show in Madrid, but also here we sit in the front seats for an excellent welcome. And I am already working out things with the Brasilian Kennel Club for the World Show 2022 in Sao Paulo. And this looks also very promising. Of course, I will keep you informed.

----------------------

One show that you can already book now is CRUFTS 2022. Press registration is open (enter with your current number on your WDPA Press Card). If there are people who are looking for affordable hotel accommodation, I have booked the at Ashleigh House in Coventry via Booking.com, 5 minutes walking from the train station. See the prices below. And remember that IBIS hotel in Coventry is good too, a little more expensive and 10 minutes from the station. Coventry is a good alternative and prices there are often only 1/3 or 1/4 the prices in Birmingham or near the NEC. It is very convenient with the train cheap, frequent and stops under the NEC. I asked if they still had some rooms left, here is the reply:

For the dates you requested we currently have a triple room (3 single beds) and a family room (king-size bed & single bed). The rooms can be booked for 1, 2, or 3 guests, and price varies depending on number of guests per room 59, 69 & 89 respectively.

Kind regards,

Damian (Ashleigh Hotel Coventry, ashleighhouse@gmx.com)

Hi Karl (about Crufts)

Thanks for your email. The UK government lifted more restrictions yesterday as UK case rates are heading downwards now (*only* 100,000 yesterday!!!). Some people think we are relaxing too quickly but we will see.

There are very few restrictions on live events, so unless things change for the worse again significantly then I feel fairly confident that Crufts will go ahead. There might be elements of the show that are a bit different (possible advisory mask-wearing etc) but it is hard to predict.

 Regards

James (Press Office Crufts)

On behalf of the press members who attended the EDS in Budapest, we would like to send special thanks to the press officer, Csaba Peterfi.

Csaba did a great job on many levels:
He greeted us with a kind smile
He made sure we received the necessary information about the show
He helped us in the main ring, making sure it was accessible to the press alone, so we could get good photos of the winners
He even provided us with snacks and drinks at his personal expense
We can only hope to get such great help in coming shows
Thank you, Csaba!
