This Thanksgiving, I reflected on the many blessings this year has brought. I was reminded of David giving thanks to the Lord for His promise to His people. “Oh give thanks to the Lord, for He is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!” 1 Chronicles 16:34 It is easy to take for granted the blessing of living in the United States. Each day, we have the opportunity to live out our American dream. In no other country do people have the uniquely American experience to change the direction of their lives and their family’s future for the better in one generation. I can tell you the American promise is alive and well— this is good news and something to be thankful for! The story of my family is the embodiment of what is possible in this great nation. My granddaddy picked cotton, my mama worked 16-hour days, and they both lived to see me serve in both chambers of Congress. I am grateful to be surrounded and supported by my family's strength, determination and faith. My family not only demonstrated how to work hard to earn your keep but also built in me a firm foundation in Jesus Christ, who is the cornerstone of my life. Without faith in God, nothing would be possible. This Thanksgiving season, we have so much to be thankful for! |
