You — fans of Garrison’s writings, A Prairie Home Companion, and The Writer’s Almanac — know that our goal is to make the majority of our offerings available to you free of charge. Sometimes, though, we need a little help. So twice a year, we put out a call for support.

What’s what:

Garrison Keillor and Friends has been published since April 2021, and we’re happy to report that there are 95,715 free subscribers. We’ve posted 100 issues of Post to the Host and twice that many columns. We love your comments of support and even your lighthearted jabs. And we appreciate that many of you share the columns.

As a subscriber to The Back Room, you unlock everything that we have published already with new material coming weekly. We also give you a 20 percent discount anytime you go to the store on our website as a thank you for your support. We currently have 3,402 paid subscribers. Beginning in March 2023, the following will be available exclusively in The Back Room: a number of episodes from Prairie Home Productions’ Comedy College, originally broadcast in 2008. With a variety of hosts like Bob Newhart, Rita Rudner, Steve Martin, Lily Tomlin, and others providing background and professional insights into the business of comedy, Comedy College features episodes of classic radio shows, stage performances, improvisational sketches, and scripted routines. It’s for people who love to laugh.

This in itself is worth checking out The Back Room.

The Writer’s Almanac Anniversary Newsletter started on May 22, 2022. We began this newsletter in order to continue TWA’s celebration of poetry and daily history by turning to our archives. This is also a free newsletter that is sent out daily. It is truly an anniversary edition — that is, we select a date and reprint what TWA aired on that given day years ago. We do offer a “paid subscription” option, but it is not obligatory. It is an avenue to help support the expenses that go into publishing these free newsletters. Check out the free subscription HERE.
