We're Right Even When It Doesn't Pay
A Message From Our Founder
Twenty-five years ago this month, when I began Antiwar.com, I had no idea it would blossom into the premier non-interventionist news source on the internet. We started this site to oppose Bill Clintons adventurism in the Balkans and Iraq, a time when it was unfashionable to be antiwar. From there it just grew, naturally and organically.
Despite most Americans lack of awareness of their governments murderous foreign policies throughout the 1990s, it was those interventions that led to 9/11. On that day, my late best friend Justin Raimondo penned a column calling those attacks what they were -- blowback. This is a view that many have adopted today.
What did we get for holding that view the day the towers came down? Death threats. And what did we get for reporting those threats? Surveillance from the federal government.
Despite the setbacks, we continued on, opposing the Bush administrations calls for war. While the entire media establishment was trying to convince the world that Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction, we were confident that he didnt. And we were right.
After the US invaded Iraq and found nothing, what happened? The New York Times reporters kept their six -figure salaries. There was no reckoning whatsoever for the US media establishment that played a role in the deaths of over one million Iraqis, people who never did anything to us.
For Antiwar.com and others who were right, there were no rewards. We still rely on donations from our readers to get by. But at least we can sleep at night.
Help us continue to be on the right side of history and make a tax-deductible donation today.
Yours in Peace,
Eric Garris
