Marine tooling company to open in Colleton County

Charleston Composites Inc. plans to establish operations in Jacksonboro, with an 87,000-square-foot facility expected to open in April. The company will provide advanced tooling for the manufacture of large boats and plans to eventually expand into the aerospace, automotive and defense sectors.

State colleges make plans to deal with coronavirus

The University of South Carolina has extended spring break another week and canceled all campus events throughout that week. Clemson has not announced a plan yet but has laid the groundwork to transition to online classes.

Sangaree deemed S.C.'s 5th-most-affordable place

A study by SmartAsset found Irmo to be the most affordable place to live in the state, measured by such factors as home costs and taxes relative to the local median income. Sangaree in Berkeley County was the top location in the Lowcountry, at No. 5, and Ladson rounded out the top 10.

Women share manufacturing experiences

Women talked about career development experiences, diversity strategies and workforce development opportunities at the Palmetto Women in Manufacturing Forum at Spartanburg’s Chapman Cultural Center on Friday.

Helping Out

The American Heart Association’s Lowcountry Heart Walk raised more than $1.24 million in its first million-dollar walk in the state. The event took place Feb. 29 and included 5,000 supporters and survivors from across the state.
