Congress considers easy forgiveness for PPP loans

The president and CEO of the S.C. Bankers Association said Congress is considering legislation that would make it easier for the federally backed Paycheck Protection Program loans to be forgiven. One version would allow loans under $150,000 to be forgiven with a simplified, one-page document.

Former SCANA COO to plead guilty to fraud charges

Stephen Byrne will plead guilty in federal court on Thursday to conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud. The charges are the first to be filed in a three-year investigation into the V.C. Summer nuclear project.

Affordable housing presents a challenge for many in S.C.

Charleston/North Charleston is the most expensive metro area in the state, with with an average hourly wage of $22.67 needed to afford the most basic two-bedroom residence, according to a report released this month by the National Low Income Housing Coalition.

Ronald McDonald House Charities of Charleston was one of six nonprofits to receive a grant from the Bishop Gadsden Charitable Fund this year. The funds went toward replacing six HVAC systems to better cool and heat the 32-bedroom home.
