Week 3 Recap
The Leesburg Lightning (9-1) added three more wins to their ledger this week, pushing their active winning streak to nine games. Two of the games required late inning comebacks, including a two-out, walkoff two RBI single on Tuesday night against Seminole County. The other five teams in the league remain tight in the standings, with only three games separating second and sixth place.
Player of the Week
Jose Crisostomo (Miami Dade) was an OBP machine last week, reaching base eight times in ten plate appearances to help the Lighting to a 3-0 record on the week.
Pitcher of the Week
Jesus Valoy (Miami Dade) continued his dominance of Florida League hitters, limiting the Scorpions to hits over five innings. In 18 innings on the year, he has allowed one earned run and only two walks.
Randy Harvey Night
The Florida League will honor Randy Harvey, who has umpired in the collegiate ranks for more than three decades. Randy recently lost both of his legs due to a rare disease, and the event will serve as a Fundraiser for Randy. 50% of all the proceeds from online ticket sales will be donated to Randy. In addition, we will have a silent auction featuring autographed memorabilia from MLB stars, with those proceeds going to Randy as well.
Saturday Youth Clinics
Florida League teams are hosting Saturday morning clinics in June and July for youth ballplayers ages 6-12. The first session is this Saturday, June 23 in DeLand, Sanford and Winter Park.
FUNraiser Program
What's better than a night at the ballpark? How about taking home some money?! Our FUNraiser program gives the chance for local schools, youth teams, non-profits and groups to sell tickets to Florida League games and take home part of the proceeds!
