Giant Eagle just recently announced it will no longer send out its weekly paper ads mailer in its home market of Pittsburgh. (And the retailer plans transition to digital flyers in all its markets in 2023.) The mailer will now be digital-only (though shoppers will still be able to get a paper copy of the weekly deals in store.)

There are still people that like paper ads. However they are mostly older gen. We eliminated paper ads nearly five years ago, went digital and hasn’t effected sales.

I think it a sign of the times, printed media is disappearing at an increasing rate. Books, magazines, newspapers don't sell like they used to when I first entered the grocery business in the 70's. Sales ads that used to be supplements in the local newspapers twice weekly are virtually non-existent. The postal service keeps raising its rate so it's an expense that retailers can save. The only group that this will have an adverse effect on will most likely the older shoppers who for various reasons avoid the digital world.
