| Our Greek friends are organising three events this week in support European Citizens' Initiative for Unconditional Basic Income with expert analysts from Greece and abroad. All three events are in English and Greek (with simultaneous interpretation) and will be live streamed on Facebook. On Tuesday, September 21st, Professor Guy Standing talks about the vitality of Basic Income in a lecture at Panteion University. On Wednesday, September 22nd, Professor Roberto Merrill and PhD Student Catarina Neves examine the basic income experiments at a round table to be held at the same place. And finally, on Thursday, September 23rd, in an online event, we talk with experts from the pilot programs that took place in Finland and Barcelona. | Human Rights start locally, like Basic Income | The Fundamental Rights Forum is Europe’s leading human rights event. Organised by the European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights, it will take place from 11 to 12 October 2021 in the Vienna City Hall and online. Its outcomes will feed into major EU and global debates on human rights that will shape our future. On Tuesday, 12 October, 11:30-12:30 CEST, UBIE in cooperation with BIEN will be hosting a panel debate titled "Human Rights start locally, like Basic Income". During this session, we will discuss the core benefits of Basic Income based on the results of the various pilots and experiments that have taken place until now, as well as the effects of the various types of cash transfers given during the pandemic, assessed from a human rights perspective, why such a policy may make sense to be realised on a local government level, and practical steps and challenges in implementing it.
