BY DOUG GRAHAM | Staff writer Tanker trucks had to haul water into town to refill Killian's water tank Wednesday after a planned effort to test the town's well ran into a snag due to a stuck well head. The well has been producing brown, silty water for more than a week. The solution to the problem could be as drastic as drilling a new well. The Department of Children and Family Services has reversed course and will fund a program to feed children this summer when students can’t receive school lunches. The Legislature is moving to provide $3.6 million in state funding to draw down $71 million in federal money to finance the program. As a result, some 450,000 impoverished children will each receive $120 this summer for food beginning June 4. A decision by the United Methodist Church to repeal its long-standing ban on LGBTQ+ clergy was marked as a "day of celebration" by many Louisiana pastors and congregation members. Delegates voted 692-51 for the change at their General Conference. |
