It’s not just Cleveland – the mobile food stands have become a part of the fabric of most streets in major U.S. cities. But outside of the typical options of chopped onions and brown mustard on a foil-wrapped dog or Italian sausage, many of them offer basic options for a quick lunch. Glizzys, a colorful hot dog cart in a parking lot on West 130th Street, has transformed what Greater Clevelanders think of as an on-the-go hot dog. Alas, when the prestigious awards were announced Monday night, June 10, at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, Cimino didn’t win. It’s called America’s Favorite Sauce by Sweet Pork Wilson’s, and its a combination of several different regional styles of barbecue sauce into one with a Cleveland twist. More than 200 beers will be offered at two sessions, one in the afternoon and one in the evening. A VIP ticket adds access for attendees. This is the fourth annual Grand Slam Beerfest. PICKS OF THE WEEK Saucy Brew Works Saucy Brew Works in Pinecrest in Orange Village has a nice duality going on – coffee in the morning, beer later on. Plus there's approachable food options with pizza being the star of the menu and fresh beer from the Cleveland-based brewery. The cooler in the back always has a handful of to-go options as well. We recently had a tasty nosh of chicken tenders. It’s at 400 Park Ave., Suite 170, Orange Village. READ MORE Rosati’s Frozen Custard This stalwart family-run ice cream stand has a classic of the “CLE Eats & Drinks” world: a custard purportedly made from the Higbee’s Chocolate Malted recipe. The flavor is rolled out on Wednesdays at their locations in Northfield Center and Brunswick locations and it’s everything you remember about the classic. Cool, creamy, with a subtle toasted nuttiness imparted by the malt – a mixture of malted barley, wheat flour and evaporated whole milk. But we’re not here to over-think (or over-science) this tradition. We just think you should make it yours if you haven’t already done so. DETAILS Mount Granita Italian Ice Nothing tastes like summer in Little Italy more than Mount Granita Italian Ice. The adorable scoop shop serves up refreshing flavors of its crisp Italian ice – Amarena cherry, mint mojito and grapefruit are just a few favorites. The best order is the flight that includes four different-flavored scoops of Italian ice that allow you to sample a little bit of everything. Mount Granita is at 2024 Murray Hill Road in Cleveland. DETAILS Pins, Ohio City Pins Mechanical Co., in Ohio City, is a place for fun games and fun beverages. They’re celebrating Pride Month with two Pride-themed drinks – the Glitterbomb Shot and the Lisa Frank cocktail or mocktail. The shot is a lemon drop that’s been adapted with glitter simple syrup and a colorful unicorn-sugar rim. Meanwhile, the Lisa Frank cocktail is named for an American artist known for her rainbow and unicorn designs. They were popular in the 1980s and 1990s and have recently made a comeback. The actual drink is a punch garnished with a rainbow sour belt skewer. Both are only available in June. DETAILS |
