WHA Highlights

Day 5 of the 75th World Health Assembly

The 75th World Health Assembly (WHA) continues today in Palais des Nations in Geneva, with all the sessions webcast live. The provisional agenda can be accessed here. Working hours are from 09:00 to 12:00 and from 14:30 to 17:30 CEST. There will be an evening session from 18:00 to 21:00

The WHA will meet today in Committee A and Committee B and in General Committee. The detailed programme of work can be found in the Daily Journal N°5, which is available in six languages of the United Nations.

Highlights of the day

COMMITTEE A (09:00, 14:30 and 18:00 CEST, Building E Room XX)

The following 3 documents on Ukraine are set to be discussed in Committee A in the morning.

Please note as per usual practice, all documents are available in the 6 UN languages.

Health situation update in Ukraine Report by the Director-General

Health emergency in Ukraine and refugee receiving and hosting countries, stemming from the Russian Federation’s aggression

Health emergency in and around Ukraine and refugee receiving and hosting countries Draft resolution proposed by the Russian Federation and the Syrian Arab Republic

The Independent Oversight and Advisory Committee for the WHO Health Emergencies Programme (Item 16.1) will also discuss Document A75/16.

COMMITTEE B (0900 and 1400 CEST, Building E Room XVII)

Committee B will consider Global strategies and plans of action that are scheduled to expire within one year (Item 21.6 continued) and WHO reform (item 21.5 continued)

Item 28 will consider matters for information including Pillar 1: One billion more people benefitting from universal health coverage, Pillar 2: One billion more people better protected from health emergencies and Pillar 4: More effective and efficient WHO providing better support to countries

Other items set to be discussed also include human resources for health

o Working for Health: draft 2022–2030 action plan (Document A75/12)

o Global health and care worker compact (Document A75/13)

o WHO Global Code of Practice on the International Recruitment of Health Personnel (Document A75/14)

o Global Strategy on Human Resources for Health: Workforce 2030 (Documents A75/15, A75/A/CONF./3 and A75/A/CONF./3 Add.1)

Details on WHA75 Strategic Round Table, "Towards a new architecture for health emergency preparedness, response and resilience: 10 proposals for a safer world", 13:00 - 14:30 CEST in Room XXVI (livestream)

The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the need for a stronger and more inclusive health emergency preparedness, response and resilience (HEPR) architecture. The 75th World Health Assembly will engage Member States and partners in discussion about a vision for Strengthening the Global Architecture for Health Emergency Preparedness, Response and Resilience.
To ensure a broad and inclusive consultation process, the draft of the Director-General’s proposals for strengthening HEPR was published and several consultations have since occurred. This strategic dialogue provides another forum to bring together different perspectives across the issues of equity, inclusivity of ownership of all countries and sectors, and coherence in the alignment of systems.
