Vice President Kamala Harris dodged a question asking her if she could explain what she meant when stating that the Biden administration would consider " equity " when disbursing natural disaster relief. Her remarks were made on Friday, following Hurricane Ian's Category 4 and Category 1 landfalls in Florida and South Carolina, respectively. Following the hurricane's landfall in Florida, at least 47 people perished. Harris commented at the Democratic National Committee's Women's Leadership Forum. "It is our lowest-income communities and our communities of color that are most impacted by these extreme conditions," Harris said. "We have to address this in a way that is about giving resources based on equity, understanding that we fight for equality, but we also need to fight for equity." She didn't answer the question when asked if she could clarify the comments. Christina Pushaw, rapid response director for Republican Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' campaign, shared on social media that the comment by Harris is false. |

According to some insiders, the largest oil producers in the world are set to reduce their output levels in a historic way. On Wednesday, OPEC and non-OPEC producers—often referred to as OPEC+—will convene in Vienna, Austria, to discuss the next stage of production strategy. OPEC+ sources claim that the oil sector and its partners are thinking about reducing their daily output by more than a million barrels. Oil prices would return to the triple digits as a result of this action. Oil prices dropped by more than $4 last month, reaching their lowest level since late February's invasion of Ukraine by Russia. And to the surprise of investors, OPEC reduced oil supply by 100,000 barrels per day in September in an effort to raise prices. |

Current and former U.S. officials are on edge about Russian President Vladimir Putin’s most recent threats to use nuclear weapons. They say that there is no one in Russia who could stop Putin from deploying such weapons if he does decide to go that route. “To be clear, the guy who makes that decision, I mean, it’s one man. There are no checks on Mr. Putin. Just as he made the irresponsible decision to invade Ukraine, you know, he could make another decision,” said Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin. Former national security adviser H.R. McMaster says that Putin is “under extreme pressure” after months of battlefield failures as tensions are rising in his country over a mobilization order that plans to send approximately 300,000 reservists into the war. Here’s why experts fear Putin could become increasingly dangerous is Russia continues to suffer such losses. |

According to a recent study, humans in the Negev Desert of Israel abandoned copper mines 3,000 years ago after using up all the local plant life to provide charcoal for smelting. These ancient locations may have served as the inspiration for the myth of King Solomon's gold mines. The Timna Valley, close to Eilat, was home to a thriving copper industry from the eleventh to the ninth centuries before the present. The researchers examined charcoal shards from these ancient furnaces. They discovered that over the roughly 250 years that the mines and smelters were operating, the quality of the wood used to manufacture charcoal decreased as people there began utilizing wood of considerably poorer quality, such as palm tree trunks, after using up all the local white broom and acacia. By about 850 B.C., the copper industry had been abandoned, and the wasted desert that remained wouldn't be exploited again for a millennium. |
