Reducing intergenerational poverty

 

Intergenerational poverty is a weight on the backs of millions of Americans. As things stand, roughly a third of U.S. children who grow up poor will also experience poverty as adults. This holds back not just individuals, but the future productivity of the U.S. economy, Greg J. Duncan and Harry J. Holzer argue.

 

In new research, Duncan and Holzer identify the key factors that perpetuate intergenerational poverty, highlight the disparities across racial lines, and share policies to help improve the long-term outcomes of children.
