Good morning, Marketer, may you always be on the sunny side of the street (unless it’s really hot out). Reading Steve Petersen’s article on applying the “Most Respectful Interpretation” principle at work got me thinking about Fr. Greg Boyle and Homeboy Industries. Started by Boyle in 1992, Homeboy is a Los Angeles organization giving second chances to people who barely got a first one. Today it provides support services, job training and jobs to 10,000 people annually. The Economist magazine calls it “the largest and most successful gang rehabilitation and re-entry program in the world.” Steve’s article echoes something Fr. Boyle once said, “Just assume the answer to every question is compassion.” Not easy to do, but so much better than the alternatives. Constantine von Hoffman, Managing Editor |
