Dear John,
Christmas is nigh!
Today’s readings remind us that Jesus, as He comes to be born of the Virgin, is also the Ancient of Days, our Shepherd Whose rule will extend to the ends of the Earth. This mystery, among the many beautiful mysteries of our Catholic Faith, demonstrates what the Angel said to Mary at the Annunciation “Nothing will be impossible for God.”
First reading: Micah 5:1-4a Psalm: Psalm 80:2-3, 15-16, 18-19 Second reading: Hebrews 10:5-10 Gospel: Luke 1:39-45
Today’s Gospel reading includes the great Magnificat, Mary’s timeless song of praise for her Creator and our Creator. May we, like John the Baptist who leapt in Elizabeth’s womb at the sound of Mary’s voice, also rejoice at Mary’s announcement of our Savior!
I pray that your Christmas is filled with faith and family, and with rejoicing and praise for our Savior Who has kept His promise of mercy.
May God richly bless you this Christmas,
