This past May, after guest-curating at the museum for a number of years, Rui Mateus Amaral became MOCA’s new artistic director. He plans to bring even more playfulness and contrast to the contemporary art hub. “There always has to be a mystery to the art,” he says, “something bizarre or something I don’t understand right away but that’s pleasing at the same time.” Here, he shares the home decor items he’s loving right now. |

| It’s late August, and you know what they say: when the wasps come a-knocking, the CNE is dropping. (Wait, do they say that? Who cares?! The CNE is here!) This year, the massive festival features eight stages, 12 bars, 60 rides, 800 vendors and so much cheese. We rounded up this edition’s slew of wacky food to present some of 2024’s most TikTok-able eats, classified from weird to wonderful to “Whoa, that’s big.” |

Multi-award-winning Australian comic Hannah Gadsby is coming to town for one night of their international stand-up special Woof! Best known for their acclaimed 2018 Netflix live show, Nanette, Gadsby has gone on to release two more specials and tour the world for each. Their latest Netflix release, Hannah Gadsby’s Gender Agenda, features seven fellow genderqueer comics including Jes Tom, Alok Vaid-Menon and Asha Ward. Stardom appears to sit uneasily with Gadsby: Woof! is billed as a meditation on how to live in a world chock full of anxieties. Thankfully, talking about your problems tends to help.
