| Editor's Note: Cloud Momentum | | Oracle's recently disclosed financial results for the third quarter of FY16 provide a snapshot of not just how Oracle's own business is going but also how quickly Oracle's customers are making the transition to the cloud. Here are just three data points from the quarterly results announced March 15 that show this cloud momentum: | Oracle's software as a service (SaaS) and platform as a service (PaaS) revenue in Q3 grew 61 percent (in constant currency), to $583 million 942 companies signed up for Oracle SaaS for the first time, to bring the total number of SaaS customers to 11,000, including more than 1,800 for cloud ERP 1,143 new PaaS customers, for a total of nearly 5,000 And Oracle is taking steps to make it even easier for customers to buy and deploy cloud services and to meet their changing expectations for speed and efficiency. The company's leadership last week described to employees a new, simplified sales process that endeavors to enable most software deals to close much faster. "We are really aiming to be the easiest company in the business to do business with, and you're going to see some very good, positive changes that we think our customers will love," Oracle CEO Safra Catz said on a conference call about the Q3 results. —By Chris Murphy, Oracle Director of Cloud Content | |
