Dear reader,
This presidential election has already been one of the wildest and most unpredictable in US history. It’s likely to be one of the most consequential too.
In Donald Trump, Republicans have nominated an unpredictable, vengeful former leader surrounded by people who want to haul the country backwards. For the Democrats, Kamala Harris represents a fresh direction from the outgoing, doddering Joe Biden – not least because she would be the first female president in American history. Still, Harris remains unknown to many voters, and with less than a month to go, the election is incredibly close.
There will likely be plenty of twists and turns to come before the result is in. To stay up-to-date in these final, anxiety-inducing weeks, sign up now for our US election newsletter, the Stakes.
I’ll start sending you our regular weekly email on Wednesdays, with daily editions in the two weeks leading up to 5 November.
The Stakes will help you make sense of the election by focusing on the extremely high stakes of this campaign – not just on the horse race between the two main candidates.
