What's Happening CHAC Gallery June 2021

Dear CHAC Community,
The closing reception for Nations United Bringing Communities Together was so much fun! We were so happy to celebrate with the community and artists. Thank you to everyone who made this possible; artists, community and collaborators (Denver American Indian Festival, First Nations, Colorado Folk Arts Council, MSU Denver Chicana/o Studies Journey Through Our Heritage and Thornton Arts and Culture Center).
We are excited to annouce our next exhibit, Generations An Intergenerational Art Show curated by Alicia Cardenas. Generations highlights the rich intergenerational connections in the Chicana/o Art community. By partnering elders with fellow up and coming artists, this unique exhibition will explore how experiences of the past helped nurture the future generation. A three part open dialogue about the creative process. Generations still has opening for more CHAC artists, please contact eventcoordinator@chacgallery.org if want to show in this exhibit. FEATURED CHAC ARTIST
CHAC artist Alicia Cardenas is the curator for Generations An Intergenerational Art Show. She is a Native Mexican American painter from Denver who takes inspiration from tribal culture, the earth and its mathematics and her kid Xochitl Mayahuel. She identifies as Chicanative. Alicia has owned a tattoo and piercing studio in Denver for the last 26 years called Sol Tribe where she tattoos full time. She has recently begun to take on larger scale projects under the name Tribal Murals to feed her appetite to color the world with ancient designs. You can find her tattoo work @soltribemama or painting works at @tribalmurals.

RECIPE FOR THE MONTH

Agua Fresca “Fresh Water”

Director's favorite

1 Large cantaloupe or half watermelon (seeded and diced) (about 3 cups)

1.5 cups of water

2-4 tablespoons of sugar

2-3 limes, juiced

Puree fruit and pour through a fine sieve to eliminate pulp. In a pitcher mix strained fruit puree with water and season with sugar and lime juice.
