Indie Tactics by Emily Thompson Indie Tactics by Emily Thompson

Am I the only one who's obsessed with doing a summer project right now?

In my experience - personally and through my clients, summer is a slow time for creative businesses. Your dream customers are going on vacations, wrangling their kids who are home from school, and otherwise just trying to find moments to go lay by the pool.

And, chances are, you're freaking out. Even if you knew this slow time was coming.

I freaked out too, the first few years I was in business. But then I wizened up and started making plans for the slow seasons. In fact, I started getting excited about summer projects.

Now, instead of twiddling my thumbs or bugging the shit out of my cold sales leads, I put my energy to good use in my business. (I mean, isn't that the thing you wish you had more time for, anyhow?!) Here's some ideas for things you could do:

  • Plan + build your new website
  • Create your new offering
  • Record your business systems
  • Reorganize your Dropbox
  • Clean out your office
  • Pre-write a bunch of content
  • Send thank you notes to all your clients or customers

Whatever it is you need to do to nurture your business and set you up for success when business starts rolling it, get it done.

And don't worry, in between tasks you certainly have my permission to go sip margaritas by the pool, too. I mean, you're the boss.

TO-DO FOR YOU:
Outline a project you want to complete in your business this summer. Make a plan, and make it do.
