With artificial intelligence (AI) technologies exploding in popularity, there has been a flurry of activity by countries, multilateral organizations, and stakeholders to develop AI strategies. Many of these strategies seek to realize this emerging technology's promise while mitigating its risks.

 

The United Nations (UN) is aiming to impose order on the growing universe of AI governance. But the international body should not form a superstructure over these AI efforts, Cameron F. Kerry says. Instead, he calls on the UN to expand access and capacity-building to ensure AI's benefits are distributed globally.
