Dear Babylon Bee Reader, I'm Greg Scott, and I lead ADF's communications team. If I had to guess, I'd bet that you take everything you hear in the media with a grain of salt. You're always wondering if you're being told the whole truth, a half-truth, or no truth at all. Isn't it sad that we have to think that way? Unfortunately, that thinking must extend to how we hear the media talk about religious freedom, free speech, the sanctity of life, parental rights, and marriage and family. Some media members put rights like religious freedom and parental rights in scare quotes. Instead of parental rights, it's "parental rights". Just take a look at this headline from The New York Times: Â
What they suggest is quite clear: These fundamental freedoms and God-given rights either aren't real, or they are just being used as a scare tactic to win elections. You and I know that's not true. In fact, we know that our First Amendment freedoms and other God-given rights are under sustained attack from government officials and far-left activist groups.Media bias against ADF clientsBut we've also seen firsthand media bias against our clients and their messages. Just earlier this year, USA TODAY published an opinion piece by one of our female athlete clients, Chelsea Mitchell. Chelsea wrote about the unfairness she experienced by being forced to compete against male athletes. After backlash from the woke mob, the editors at USA TODAY unilaterally changed Chelsea's words and called them "hurtful language." What was hurtful? The word "male." USA TODAY violated its principles to appease the mob. Its blatant censorship of Chelsea and the truth violates the trust we place in the media to be honest brokers of public debate. That incident and the many others like it are why I'm sending you this message. How you can influence the public debateI know you hear a lot about our clients, the cases we file, and our wins and losses. But I want you to know, you're not just funding legal work when you give to ADF. You're standing for what's right in both the courtroom and in the court of public opinion. You're helping get the truth out to the American public about these important issues and critical cases-even in a noisy media landscape that's riddled with falsehoods and untruths. In fact, you're helping make it possible for our communications team to publish opinion pieces on our cases in national outlets, appear on television to tell the stories of our clients, and so much more. Together we are working to change hearts and minds. Will you help continue this work with a gift today? Your gift right now will help meet our $11.8 million year-end funding goal. And it may even qualify for a special $500,000 matching grant* that will DOUBLE your gift. You can give by clicking here: https://adflegal.org/year-end/donate Onward, Greg Scott Senior Vice President of Communications *Your gift will be DOUBLED if you've never given a gift to Alliance Defending Freedom-until the match is met. For existing Ministry Friends, your gift will be DOUBLED-until the match is met-if you have not given since December 31, 2019. Or, if your gift is an increase from your 2020 giving, your gift will also be doubled. For example, if you gave $500 in total in 2020, and your gift today makes your total 2021 giving $700, then $200 will be matched. Â Â |
