CRC Member Exclusive | Drug abuse awareness and screening requirements for healthcare practitioners | Some states, such as Maryland, have implemented mandatory prescription drug monitoring programs to help address the opioid crisis. Such programs require both prescribers and pharmacists to not only report when controlled substances are prescribed/dispensed, but also query the database and evaluate the patient’s current and past prescription history. This query assists practitioners with clinical decision-making regarding possible adverse drug interactions; however, it also alerts the prescriber to any other prescriptions for controlled substances that the patient may have recently filled. This helps decrease a patient’s ability to “doctor hop,” getting multiple prescriptions from various practitioners and filling them at different pharmacies. |

CRC Announcements | Register for our upcoming provider enrollment webinar! | Join us on Tuesday, August 13 from 1:00-2:30 pm ET for our webinar Enrollment Solutions: Improving Payer Approvals, presented by Amy M. Niehaus, MBA, CPMSM, CPCS. Lengthy enrollment turnaround times with commercial payers can hurt an organization’s bottom line with delayed or lost revenue. Provider enrollment specialists have traditionally performed this function, but a growing contingent of MSPs are managing enrollment duties in addition to their existing medical staff credentialing obligations. During this 90-minute webinar, Niehaus will give attendees an understanding of the payer credentialing process and requirements under Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) standards.
