BY VICKI FERSTEL | Staff writer The Federal Emergency Management Agency — an agency of critical importance to disaster-prone Louisiana — may be in for an overhaul. President Donald Trump created the FEMA Review Council to report on the strengths and failings of the disaster aid agency. The council is expected to make its recommendations by summer. A U.S. House committee hearing last week floated several ideas — including letting states carry more of the disaster burden. Staff writer Mark Ballard has more on what this may mean for Louisiana. Coach Kim Mulkey isn’t a huge fan of conference tournaments: Too much risk and not enough reward, especially for teams like LSU's, which has earned top NCAA Tournament seeds. And Sunday's Southeastern Conference proved her point. Early in the third quarter of the LSU women’s basketball team’s 56-49 semifinal loss to Texas, Aneesah Morrow suffered an injury scare when she fell awkwardly on a drive to the rim. Staff writer Reed Darcey explores the issue. Madison Sheahan, secretary of the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, has landed a top job in ICE, the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency. U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said Sheahan will serve as ICE deputy director. Sheahan previously worked for Noem when she was governor of South Dakota. Sheahan was executive director of the South Dakota Republican Party when Gov. Jeff Landry picked her to run Louisiana's wildlife agency in late 2023. She was 26 at the time.
