Friday, January 8, 2021 Dear John Where Do You Stand on Travel for 2021? Who's ready to say good riddance to 2020 and start making travel plans for next year? There has been good news as the vaccine is successfully rolling out around the world. So hopefully, we'll start truly beating back this virus and be able to move about freely again. I'm not making any solid plans for the first few months, but at least now you can change your plane tickets and hotel reservations easily if you need to, so you can start to dream and book. You'll need to add a few more things to your checklist before you take off though. For most countries, even if they're open, you can't visit without proof of a recent negative Covid-19 test. So figure out how you'll make that happen. Some airports and airlines are starting to offer it. Second, if you're headed to countries that are open now, a good number of them require proof of travel insurance. That insurance must cover Covid-19 treatment if you contract it and there's usually a specific minimum dollar amount. For example, in Costa Rica, the requirement is, "an international policy that covers COVID-19 medical expenses of at least $50,000 and $2,000 for lodging." Thailand is requiring coverage of at least $100,000. There's one company I and nearly all of my travel tribe have been buying an annual policy from for years and we believe in them enough that we signed on as a paid ambassadors. That's Allianz USA travel insurance. You can click on the Covid part on that home page link to see what you get with various plans. They've also got a great app you can download that will warn you of weather disasters, help you find an English-speaking doctor, and reimburse you on the fly for airport expenses if your flight gets delayed half a day. Perhaps more importantly if you're in "road trips only" mode, they cover you any time you're more than 100 miles from home. Share your travels with GoNOMAD when you take flight again! We know you're going to be as happy as we are when you can take off again. |
