| 1. AEG FACILITIES AND SMG MERGE: AEG Facilities and SMG merged on Tuesday to form venue management company ASM Global. The new company owns 310 venues, including U.K.’s Manchester Arena, Chicago’s Soldier Field, and performing arts venues and convention centers throughout North and South America, Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. Billboard: “Headquartered in Los Angeles, with key operational offices near Philadelphia, as well as in England (London and Manchester), Australia (Brisbane), and Brazil (Sao Paulo), ASM is led by former AEG Facilities president Bob Newman, who has been named president and C.E.O. of the new company. SMG’s former chief executive Wes Westley will be working to ensure a ‘seamless integration’ of the two properties, though his official role going forward was not defined.” 2. ‘MEAN GIRLS’ POP-UP RESTAURANT WILL OPEN IN SANTA MONICA: A pop-up themed around the 2004 high school comedy Mean Girls is slated to open in Santa Monica. The pop-up, which will be called Fetch, will be open on weekends in November at the former Joan’s on 3rd space. Real estate firm Festival Companies Inc., and Rixton Productions, an event production company responsible for BrunchCon, will produce the pop-up, which is not affiliated with the movie or Paramount Pictures. The Hollywood Reporter: “The food and cocktail menus are still in development, though a bar will be available with Mean Girls-theme drinks for sale, potentially including the She Asked Me How to Spell Orange Twist with vodka and other references to Swedish Fish and Toaster Strudels. … Although the pop-up is not open on Wednesdays, the suggested dress code is still pink, of course. The Mean Girls soundtrack will be played throughout the space, which will be decorated like the school cafeteria.” 3. COMEDIAN CRASHES CHANEL SHOW AT PARIS FASHION WEEK: A comedian crashed the runway at Chanel’s Paris Fashion Week Show on Tuesday, and was stopped by model Gigi Hadid. The woman, Marie Benoliel, walked onto the stage from the audience, and later posted the video on her YouTube channel. NBC News: “After strutting with the models, the intruder veers away from them but remains on the set when Hadid, who was in the show, approaches her, puts a hand on her back, and shoots her a stern look. The woman appears to resist a bit but Hadid manages to lead her away. … In her caption, she referred to an Etam's Spring 2020 show last week, which she also crashed, saying that interrupting the lingerie brand's show was ‘too easy.’” |
