White House reports urge Kansas to up testing, ignore bars

Long term care facilities are raising the alarm that testing costs and a lack of new funding could push many nursing homes to the brink of financial ruin, advocates told legislators Monday.

Gov. Laura Kelly announced Monday that Kansas is beginning the first phase of a new testing plan designed to significantly increase its capacity to diagnose COVID-19.

Yard signs in an election year are typically about as newsworthy as snow in January. Campaign materials from a wide swath of candidates in federal, state and local races unceremoniously dot the landscape across Topeka.

Gov. Laura Kelly signed an executive order Wednesday that would allow driver's licenses that expired during the COVID-19 pandemic to remain valid until Jan. 26, 2021.

Various state and community leaders spoke with legislators Wednesday in a committee hearing, seeking changes or wanting to keep parts to the Kansas Emergency Management Act.
