Dear John,
During my high school years, I noticed a phenomenon I’ve only come to understand as I work with business leaders.
I wasn’t in the “popular crowd” in high school but I had a great circle of friends. As happened in John Hughes’ 1980’s movies, my friends and I felt uncomfortable, and acted even more awkward then we looked. None of us had any self-awareness, and our egos were made of glass, so we welcomed the comfort of being in a group.
The crew basically grew up together – we shared the bond of everything from raging hormones to acne and difficult teachers. My grades, my choice of part time employment, and yes, even the girls I was interested in, were all influenced by the people with whom I interacted each day.
The same thing is true for you – it was then and it is now.
The people around you influence your business and your life.
For years, I drove a Honda or a Toyota. Those are sensible cars. They last forever. And they fit right in with what everyone in my social circle was driving.
I elbowed my way down the aisle of an airplane and sat in coach with my family while we went on vacation with families of my friends.
I stayed in the select-service hotel when we traveled with the Girl Scout troop because that’s where everyone else stayed.
I thought that was me. I didn’t think I deserved the better car, the first-class seat, or the luxury hotel. It was too much money – not because I didn’t make enough, but because the people in my social circle didn’t make enough and I wanted to fit in.
This happens in business too.
You most likely make the same amount of money as the average of the five people you spend the most time around. Your mind has set that income level as your threshold.
Want to make more? Do two things:
First: Start hanging out with people who make more.
Then: Treat yourself like you already make more.
These two things will reprogram your mindset.
The people you hang out with have programed you to be at a certain status level in life but that doesn’t mean you are stuck with that programing.
Change it by changing your environment.
Want more money? Hang out with millionaires, treat yourself to a luxury trip, and drive a nice car.
Can’t get past your “worthiness issues?” Give me a call. I will help you.
By the way, last week I made an offer to work with you to make an additional $50,000. Seven people took me up on my offer. I have three spots left. If you want one, visit this website right now. Time is running out. Don’t miss out.
Have a great week.
Warm regards,
Dave Lorenzo
