What happened on Saturday? Prior to Saturday's election — where voters did not approve four constitutional amendment backed by Gov. Jeff Landry — Landry raised money for an expensive advertising campaign and stumped throughout the state in particular for Amendment 2, a complicated measure that would have rewritten the state tax code in multiple ways. He also supported the other three amendments, which would have created specialty courts, expanded the number of crimes that would put children in adult prisons and changed election dates for judicial vacancies. The rejection was so decisive that the high Democratic turnout doesn’t tell the whole story – the governor didn’t win over enough Republicans, analysts say. Improving teacher turnover: For every 10 teachers hired, only three are still teaching in East Baton Rouge Parish public schools five years later. And every year, nearly 25% of the teachers leave the system, far higher than the nationwide average for teacher turnover. Traffic changes: A permanent traffic change for Interstate 10 westbound exits at College Drive will go into effect on Sunday, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development announced. Beginning Sunday, a new, far-right exit lane will travel only to Corporate Boulevard, with a rollover curb separating the lane from College Drive. Get more information. |
