| | Dear reader,
The Guardian’s independent, high-impact journalism is powered by its readers around the globe.
And right now, that support is needed more than ever.
In 2020, a turning point in the escalating climate crisis, we stopped accepting advertising revenue from fossil fuel companies. Then, in 2023, we did the same with gambling companies.
The Guardian is owned by the Scott Trust, the purpose of which is to “secure the financial and editorial independence of the Guardian in perpetuity”. That unique ownership model means we’re free to make these kinds of choices. But turning down fossil fuel and gambling advertising does mean we’ve taken a hit in revenue.
That means that the support we receive from our readers is more vital than ever. |

| We haven’t put up a paywall on our website, while the majority of our competitors have. We did this because we believe that information equality is vital to a thriving democracy.
But continuing our work relies on contributions from supportive readers like you.
Back us in the way that suits you best – with a one-off contribution, or by becoming a subscriber. We understand that times are tight, but if you feel you can help, you’d know it would be helping other readers who aren't able to pay. |
