We’ve been treated to some great insight this week by Mercedes technical mastermind James Allison regarding the massive challenge of the new ruleset for Formula 1 in 2022. As reigning constructors’ champions, Mercedes has the most to lose – having (almost) dominated the turbo-hybrid era to date. While the engine regs stay the same (this year’s power units will be frozen for three years going forwards) it’s all change for the car and, in the video in our story below, Allison speaks of the “jeopardy” and “landmines” of getting the car right. He also states “one or two cars on the grid will have got it really badly wrong. And they will have a terribly painful year” – yikes! However, recent history has proven Mercedes is the best team when it comes to executing the build of the best F1 car on the grid, while bitter rival Red Bull has been a notorious slow starter… Only one thing is for sure – this year’s launch season is more eagerly anticipated than ever.
