If confirmed, media advisory with dial-in details will be emailed in advance. 23-29 OctoberInternational Lead Poisoning Week‘Say no to lead poisoning’ is the theme of the 10th International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (ILPPW) to raise awareness about lead poisoning and encourage all countries to take action to prevent lead exposure, particularly in children. Each year, an estimated 1 million people, die from lead poisoning. Millions more, many of them children, are exposed to low levels of lead causing lifelong health problems, including anaemia, hypertension, immunotoxicity and toxicity to the reproductive organs. Monday, 24 OctoberState of the World's Drinking Water ReportThe State of the World’s Drinking Water report, to be released 24 October 2022 by WHO/UNICEF and the World Bank, provides a comprehensive review of the links between water, health, and development, with actionable recommendations for governments and partners, illustrated by examples of how countries are contributing to the attainment of the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) target of reaching safely managed drinking water for all by 2030. To provide universal access to safe drinking water by 2030, governments and partners must dramatically increase political commitment to drinking water and quadruple investments. The report provides comprehensive recommendations to enact sustainable improvements that addresses infrastructure, governance, finance, capacity development, data and information, and innovation, even with limited budgets. They are resistant to treatment with only four classes of antifungal medicines currently available, and few candidates in the clinical pipeline.The WHO fungal priority pathogens list is the first global effort to systematically prioritize fungal pathogens, considering the unmet research and development needs and the perceived public health importance. Thursday, 27 OctoberLaunch of the 2022 Global Tuberculosis ReportThe World Health Organization is releasing the 2022 edition of its Global Tuberculosis (TB) Report on Thursday, 27 October. The report features data on disease trends and the response to the epidemic from 215 countries and areas, including all 194 World Health Organization (WHO) Member States. It provides a comprehensive and up-to-date assessment of the TB epidemic, progress in the response at global, regional and country levels, as well as on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on TB services. The report will be launched during a virtual Press Conference on Thursday afternoon (CEST), a separate media advisory will provide details.
