Proceedings will be webcast here. The Executive Board is composed of 34 technically qualified members elected for three-year terms. This second shorter meeting of the year is a follow-up to the Health Assembly. The main functions of the Board are to implement the decisions and policies of the Health Assembly, and advise and generally to facilitate its work. Tuesday, 31 May World No Tobacco Day On World No Tobacco Day next Tuesday, WHO will launch a new publication on the harmful impact of the tobacco industry on the environment and announce the Director General's World No Tobacco Day awardees. Tobacco kills over 8 million people every year and destroys our environment, further harming human health, through the cultivation, production, distribution, consumption, and post-consumer waste. Wednesday, 1 June Tracking SDG7: The Energy Progress Report The Tracking SDG7: The Energy Progress Report provides the most comprehensive look available at the world’s progress towards global energy targets on access to electricity, clean cooking, renewable energy, and energy efficiency and gives the international community the latest global dashboard to register progress on the SDG7 targets. The report is prepared by the SDG7 Indicator Custodian Agencies - the International Energy Agency (IEA), the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), the UN Statistics Division (UNSD) at UN DESA, the World Bank, and WHO, and will be launched next Wednesday at 16:00 CEST. Thursday, 2 June Fighting tobacco product waste WHO, the UN Environment programme and the FCTC will reveal new information on the extent to which tobacco damages both the environment and human health, calling for steps to make the industry more accountable for the destruction it is causing. The event will shed light on the global detrimental impact of tobacco product waste on the environment, economy, societies, human health, biodiversity and bodies of water. As well as propose that the tobacco industry be responsible for cleaning up their discarded products, go through policy options and hear from cities and countries that have already stepped up. Register here. Thursday-Friday, 2-3 June WHO monkeypox research: What are the knowledge gaps and priority research questions? The WHO R&D Blueprint is organizing a consultation over two-days to discuss knowledge gaps and priority research questions for monkeypox research. The consultation will be held Thursday from 13:00-16:50 CEST and Friday from 13:00–16:30 CEST. During this consultation global experts will review the available evidence in terms of: Our understanding the dynamics of monkeypox transmission and epidemiology and the clinical characteristics of the disease.Available evidence regarding therapeutics, diagnostics and vaccines licensed and under development.Novel approaches for evaluation of monkeypox therapeutics and vaccines.Country perspectives in terms of research priorities and opportunities.Register here. Friday, 3 June New WHO policy brief: Why mental health is a priority for action on climate change Why mental health is a priority for action on climate change, a new WHO policy brief highlights five important approaches for governments to address the mental health impacts of climate change. The findings concur with a recent report by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), published in February this year. The IPPC revealed that rapidly increasing climate change poses a rising threat to mental health and psychosocial well-being; from emotional distress to anxiety, depression, grief, and suicidal behavior. The mental health and climate change policy brief will be launched next Friday, 3 June, at the Stockholm+50 conference and to mark World Environment Day, 5 June. The Stockholm Conference commemorates the 50th anniversary of the UN Conference on the Human Environment and recognizes the importance of environmental determinants for both physical and mental health.
