Why do migratory birds matter?

Migratory birds usually fly under the radar when we think about what we must do to help protect nature, which we all depend on for our survival.

Though many of us might not encounter them or think about them often, these birds play an important role in maintaining natural ecosystems and sustaining people's livelihoods!

They don't just control the numbers of pests that would otherwise plague our natural environments and our crops - many serve as pollinators, moving seeds and nutrients across the world. In fact, the seeds of over 90% of all woody tree species are moved around by birds.

However, threats such as climate change and overfishing are impacting migratory birds. That's not all, plastic pollution alone kills one million seabirds – and 90% of seabirds have plastic in their guts.

This World Migratory Bird Day, show your support for them and help us fight plastic pollution.

water must be at the heart of climate adaptation

For a growing number of people around the world, this is what climate change looks like. It is not about concentrations of carbon atoms in the atmosphere, or even heatwaves or devastating hurricanes: instead, it is about too little or too much water and the crippling impacts that follow.

As the impacts of climate change accelerates, we urgently need to secure a New Deal for Nature and People that protects and restores nature by 2030.
