The first Miami Grand Prix is one I’ll never forget, as Formula 1 came to South Florida and the hype over the event exploded with A-listers and sporting stars left, right and centre. This could only happen here. I’ve lived in Miami for over seven years now, so the fake marina, cable cars over the track and Hard Rock Beach Club (complete with basking fake mermaids) came as no surprise – they paved a parking lot and put up a paradise! Like Monaco, which even has a real marina, this race should be celebrated for what it is – an outlier that should never be regarded as the norm. Welcome to Miami!
