PSA: Stop sharing your phone’s address book with apps that ask for it

Sharing your contacts with social media makes it easier to find friends and family on the platform. But did you know you're sharing their personal information without consent? Even if a contact isn't on social media, their phone number or email address will be exposed to the company. Here's how to stop this invasive option on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Quick tip of the day

As convenient as Google Maps and Apple Maps are, it’s unnerving when your house and address number are visible to anyone on the internet. Here’s a secret: You can request a privacy blur over pictures of your home.

Here‘s how to submit a request to Google:

  • Open Google Maps or the Street View gallery and look up your address.
  • Tap the Street View photo you want to have blurred. The image has to show your face, home, license plate or other identifying information.
  • Click Report a problem. You’ll find this in the bottom right or by clicking the three-dot menu on a photo.
  • Complete the form, then click Submit.

🍎 Now do the same with Apple Maps. The steps are different for this one.
