Where Champions Play!
Dear Golfers,
I apologize for this lengthy note and in no way am I trying to make light of the gravity of this situation, but what a week! We went from beginning this past week with the ACC Basketball Tournament on the TV and so much excitement surrounding March Madness, the PGA Tour golf schedule, The Masters on the horizon to now, no sports at all…this will surely be a March that I will never forget. Although I am disappointed that we will not hear common words like “Patrons”, “Hello Friends”, “March Madness”, “Cinderella Story” and more over the next month, sports pale in importance compared to the health of our families and the nation.
The COVID-19 virus is a scary thing. It moves rapidly between people and can have serious impact on elderly people or people with underlying health issues. There have been several health-related deaths because of COVID-19 however, very few in our country compared to the rest of the world. One silver lining of this virus is that it appears children are not overly susceptible to it. With an almost 3 year old at home, I am grateful this is the case and pray that myself, my wife, my daughter, and all of you remain healthy.
This is a very unprecedented time for our country and, while losing sports for a little while is frustrating for the majority of us, especially me, seeing everyone come together like I have is a good sign of things to come. Thank you for staying healthy and making us fill up those soap dispensers! In these times when we are so divided between politics, religion, and our beliefs, it is great to see everyone being so cautious with what they do and how they approach their day to day lives. Seeing everyone across the nation unify to stop this deadly disease shows we can come together and work as a whole when we are pressed to do so.
Wildwood Green is Open and
At this time there are no known cases of COVID-19 with any of our employees, members, or guests at Wildwood Green. Here at the club we are committed to “flattening the curve” and this past week we started sanitizing surfaces like we never have had to before. High traffic areas (such as door handles) are being sanitized with bleach. Our golf cart steering wheels, handles, and sand bottles are being sanitized after each use. Doors and counter tops are being wiped throughout the day to avoid spreading any infectious diseases.
With all of this said, we do plan to remain open and give you an outlet from being tied to your home. I feel that by taking the above precautions we can minimize everyone’s risk of COVID-19 and still run an operation that gives you a chance to get out of the house and enjoy life! Golf, after all, is meant to be enjoyed by the masses and is fun to play. We could all use a little fun right now and Wildwood Green is here for you!
Why Golf is the Ultimate Sport Right Now
When looking at all the sports in the world, golf is the Ultimate Sport during this time and here is why:
1. Golf is one sport that you can enjoy solo. You do not need a partner to participate and, even though we at Wildwood pair groups into foursomes as best as we can, there is still ample time for you to play some holes solo if you would like.
2. When playing with your friends, you can stay several feet away from them and still have a blast!
3. The pin can be left in so minimizing touching of shared items is reduced.
4. You are out in the fresh air improving your health by exercising. Although we must avoid too much sunshine, the sun does provide one very important nutrient – vitamin D. Vitamin D raises energy levels, improves attitude, generates cell growth, and aids calcium use.
5. Golf reduces stress (most of the time), especially when you hit a great shot!
Extra Precautions
At the end of the day we will get through this scary time in our world and hopefully we will be better off for it by being able to develop stronger vaccines and “doomsday” processes on how to handle situations like this.
At Wildwood we will be adjusting our schedule a bit to accommodate the ever-changing landscape of the Corona Virus and the impacts it has had, and will continue to have, on the people around us for some time.
1. I have decided to lift the mandatory cart restrictions. This means that you can walk at anytime. We simply ask that you maintain pace of play with the group in front of you and play on expected pace. Please remember to keep your distance! Here is a good article to read on social distancing and how we can all help flatten the curve.
Although we cannot give everyone a golf cart to use by themselves, we can promote keeping our distance from the person next to us.
We also have two individual rider Fat Tire Scooters that you can rent for a regular cart fee. Please call the golf shop at 919-846-8376 extension 2 to reserve the scooter.
This riding restriction is lifted through Sunday, April 5th and we will reevaluate the conditions at that time.
2. We will continue to sanitize the cart handles (on the roof and on your sides), the steering wheels, and the sand bottles, as well as high traffic areas, for the foreseeable future.
