Dear Friends: I'm reaching out today to make sure you saw our announcement of The Weekly Standard European Charter Cruise planned for September 2-10. We're chartering Windstar's Star Pride yacht which, with a capacity for just 212 passengers, makes for a wonderful and exclusive atmosphere for guests and special speakers. In 2014 we sailed with Windstar in the Caribbean and our guests raved about their upscale yet relaxed ambiance and excellent cuisine and service. We depart Dublin, Ireland, on September 2nd and make our way to Cherbourg on the Normandy coast. We'll spend two days in the region, allowing for plenty of time for a full day tour of the beaches central to the D-Day invasion, the American Cemetery, and the Airborne Museum. Day two in the region will take us to St. Malo, a beautiful walled coastal city and the jumping off point for a visit to the iconic Mont St. Michel monastery. Next we'll head south to El Ferrol, Spain, and Porto, Portugal, before wrapping up in Lisbon on September 10th. Joining us for this voyage are special guest speakers Gen. Jack Keane, (Ret.) and British historian and author Andrew Roberts. General Keane is a retired four-star Army general who is currently chairman of the Institute for the Study of War. You also might recognize him as a Fox News Channel military analyst. Andrew Roberts is author of a number of books on WWII and Napoleon including, "The Storm of War: A New History of the Second World War." Roberts is currently working on a new biography of Sir Winston Churchill. Both will speak on the invasion of Normandy ahead of our stops in the region. Joining us in addition to these distinguished guest speakers are The Weekly Standard all-stars: Steve Hayes, Editor in Chief Fred Barnes, Executive Editor Bill Kristol, Editor at Large Andrew Ferguson, Sr. Editor Chris Caldwell, Sr. Editor You can expect our onboard discussions to center on the latest political events in Washington and also a close examination of the shifting political landscape in the UK and across Europe. Stay tuned for announcements of additional speakers this spring. As with past trips, our friends at the Cruise and Vacation Authority are standing by to answer questions and help you plan this once-in-a-lifetime experience. Don't hesitate to call them at 888-471-3882. And stay tuned for more information from them on a multi-day, pre-cruise tour of Ireland as well. Go to www.WeeklyStandardEvents.com to learn more or to reserve your cabin today. I hope to see you all in September. Please don't hesitate to reach out with questions. All the best, Catherine Lowe Events Director |
