Dear Reader,
Latin America is finally coming round to renewable energy, especially wind. From almost zero capacity less than 10 years ago, the region now as over 20GW of wind turbines installed, from the gusty Chilean Patagonian region, through the semi-arid highlands of Brazil, to the tropical forests of Mexico.

In this special supplement, we major on how Brazil, the region’s undisputed leader with 14GW of installed wind capacity, is grappling with keeping up with the sector’s technological race while at the same time not letting go of its hard-fought local content rules.
We also look at how Argentina, which made its debut in the market with a bang in 2016 and is already building 2.5GW of new wind capacity, has overcome most of difficulties so far but now faces serious constraints linked to its ageing grid.
And rounding out our special supplement we have an exclusive interview with Colombia’s new energy minister, Susana Jiménez, who talks about how, after years of procrastination, the country has finally decided to enter the renewable energy race - and has ambitions plans to make up for lost time.
