The fear of ‘what now’? Surgery. And then the follow up treatments which include chemotherapy and radiation. It’s hard enough when everything can happen right where you live. But for many patients in outlying areas, they have to leave the familiarity and comfort of home and go to an unknown place to receive the medical help needed. The very thought is stressful and daunting – until these patients discover and experience the Care Homes that friends like you help to provide with your donations. A cancer patient confides, “When I came here I was broken and terrified about what lay ahead. Slowly I was given back my self-confidence and determination to get well.” Reassuringly ‘just like home’, CANSA Care Homes like Mkhuhla in Durban, Irma Bruschi in George, and others, provide a warm and empathetic welcome, a safe and comforting atmosphere, as well as full board, for patients who couldn’t possibly afford commercial accommodation. Then add free transport to treatment centres, access to assistive aids and devices, information, emotional and spiritual support, to see the full value of what your donation helps to provide. But then came COVID-19, with cancer patients being amongst the most vulnerable in infection risk. Requirements to keep everyone safe has added hugely to the daily budget of the homes. So you’ll understand why we need you to show you care again in these difficult times by making an online donation. In return, we can only say ‘thank you’ for ‘being there’ for cancer patients when they need support most, and also for helping us to meet these extra COVID costs. And as you know, February is known as ‘the month of love’, and it’s also the end of the tax year. When you make your generous ‘gift of love’, by clicking here before the 28th of this month we’ll send you your tax certificate so that you can benefit from a tax reduction. |
