| | SPORTS PODCAST (51 MIN) Women Changing the Game in Pro Sports The professional sports industry in the United States has historically been a man's game. Men have held leadership roles, designed competition formats, chosen which sports stories get elevated, and set the tone for how athletes are treated. What if pro sports were owned, designed, and run by women? It's already happening, in part, because fans are demanding it. Angela Ruggiero, co-founder of the Sports Innovation Lab, Aleshia Ocasio, professional softball player, and Julie Foudy, co-owner of Angle City FC, talk with Jon Solomon, editorial director of the Aspen Institute's Sports & Society Program, about how women can change the game in the future of professional sports. | | | OPINION VIDEO (42 MIN) Building Access for the Next Five Years When it comes to venture capital funding, a recent study finds large-scale differences along racial lines. It’s worse than you might think: Black-led organizations receive up to 76 percent less funding than their white counterparts. Similarly, BIPOC communities face disproportionate access to education and mentorship, which makes obtaining social mobility and economic independence challenging. Grammy Award-Winning musician Pharrell Williams says mentorship is critical for young entrepreneurs. He launched Black Ambition, an initiative that supports talented entrepreneurs who lack access to capital and resources. He speaks with Echoing Green President Cheryl L. Dorsey about the barriers Black leaders and promising young Black students face in gaining access to capital and education. Dorsey is a leading investor in emerging social entrepreneurs around the world. Liz Thompson, president of Cleveland Avenue Foundation for Education, moderates their discussion. How can we build more power among communities of color, and forge a more equitable path forward? Presented by the Walton Family Foundation. Watch. |
