It’s our birthday and we’d like you to join us to celebrate 100 years of radio in Western Australia! On June 4, 1924, Radio 6WF, made history with its first transmission. It broadcast a speech from then-Premier Philip Collier, followed by a program of light music and live entertainment. 6WF was established by Westralian Farmers’ Co-operative Ltd (Wesfarmers) and was the first high powered radio station in WA. It was designed to service the whole state but provided important agricultural information to farmers in regional WA. Since then 6WF – now ABC Radio Perth - has played a crucial role in the lives of West Australians, through good time and bad, through crisis and celebration. To mark the centenary, the Mornings program has been digging into the archives and will bring some golden moments back to life, during a live broadcast from the State Library of Western Australia. Perth Symphony Orchestra will recreate original pieces of music that were performed on the first ever broadcast of 6WF. I’d love you to come along and be part of the audience - but be quick as there aren’t many tickets left. It’s free to register, just jump on the link below. If you can’t make it, listen in from 08.30 and I’ll try to save you some birthday cake. |
